Here are my originating ideas. The only one I am totally attached to is that we focus on wargaming. I'm open to playing other types of games of course, and I think that some strategic games, while not technically war games, still can fit in our schemes (e.g. Terraforming Mars is competitive enough and map based, so close enough in my book).
1. We collectively define what types of games we are going to focus un-here's an example:
a. Games Should be Map Based (this would eliminate pure card games, pure miniature games, and abstract games like chess).
b. Games should have a war element, or an economic element closely resembling war (e.g. 18XX games, Terraforming Mars).
2. The goal is ultimately to play "competitively" i.e. with rankings based on "match play". Players in the league would not be required but rather encouraged to participate in pre-arranged or spontaneous "matches" which could also accommodate multiple players.
3. Players would be rated according to their level of expertise with a particular game as well and we could create a handicap for scoring purposes. However, gamers who have not played any game AT LEAST TWICE would not be eligible for match play until they have done so.
4. So there could be two major divisions of play: Tactical Games (e.g. Command and Colors) and Strategic Games (e.g. Twilight Imperium, Pax Romana, Civilization, etc).
5. We would devise a scoring system (I have some ideas but that is a separate , detailed discussion
We could piggyback on other gaming club meetups. It is what I have been doing a long time.
